Manchester United Quarter final champions league draw

We have been landed a near perfect draw. We play Roma away in the quarter finals and then either Bayern Munich or AC Milan in the semi finals. To be honest it could have gone a lot worse and I for one am glad we avoided English opposition.

I think it is quite amusing that Liverpool and Chelsea face the prospect of playing each other in the semi finals; this will be the third year in a row that they have the potential to meet each other before the final.

This year there is a very real possibility of there being an all English final. Could you imagine 50,000 Liverpool fans and 50,000 Manchester United fans in Greece for the final. I would not fancy policing that one.

Overall a very good draw, now let’s focus on the FA Cup on Saturday. This really could be our year!

With three English teams in the last 8 and the form of the remaining teams, an all English final is looking promising. Liverpool have drawn the easiest team still in the Champions League, playing PSV Eindhoven. Chelsea have drawn Valencia, the resilient Spanish veterans who have thorough understanding of what the Champions League means to any club and its trophy cabinet. The most anticipated clash of the quarter finals will undoubtedly be A.C. Milan against Bayern Munich, two European clubs with immeasurable amounts of experience in this top flight European competition. A clash of titans of epic proportion, it will be interesting to see whether the flair and pace of Milan can overcome the clinical style of play associated with Bayern.
The Reds have a trip to Roma for their first leg tie of the quarters, a draw fans will be fairly happy with, but will injury worries surrounding the Manchester camp plague preparations and potentially end Uniteds treble hopes?
Good news came from Old Trafford this morning with Ferguson confirming that injuries to striker Louis Saha and midfielder Michael Carrick are less severe than initially thought, yet both are still expected to be out for a couple of weeks. Lets have big game tomorrow although, as horrendous as it sounds, a draw will give us more time, due to an overloaded calendar, to get players back from injury against Chelsea. Its going to be a great end to the season!!

someone on the forums had predicted bayern in the semis saying it was destiny cuz of the hargreaves saga! well, they could be right...let's hope so. but i think roma will be a tactical battle. i'm confident vidic and rio will neutralise totti and mancini (two players i love to watch) and hopefully we'll have saha back by at least the return leg. scholes, giggsy and neville will have to be at their experienced best and show the others how to control a game like that cuz roma will show all their italian smarts on the day. i predict a battle in rome (maybe 1-1) then a nervous game of cat and mouse at old trafford but ending 2-0 on the night...to us of course!!

as for injuries this is a worry. no fletcher, no scholes and no carrick for the next few matches. i'm not sure i understand anonymous's logic of a draw tomorrow helping us. surely just winning it outright would be better! but it will be difficult for sure and middlesborough will fancy their chances against us at the moment. we need ronaldo and rooney and larsson to flow together the way they were doing a few weeks back.

fingers crossed as always!

am a good United fan however that draw looks easier but very hard indeed.Italian opponents play physical games which the current united is slightly short of.

But over all, the quarter is a quater final. You do not expect to get walk over matches.
