Manchester United V Roma match review and highlights

Well boys and girls, could you ever have wished for a more scintillating performance? I have to be honest I was nervous before the game. I could see us grabbing an early goal and then sitting back, only for them to equalise in the last minute…. I couldn’t have been wrong. 7-1.. yes 7-1 the players couldn’t have rewarded those fans that were mixed up in the violence a week ago any better way. It will have been a long walk home back to Rome!

It was a night when United were truly back to their best. Carrick and Ronaldo both grabbed a brace and it was fantastic to see Smith get on the scoresheet. I truly feel that his enthusiasm and determination lifted the team to produce such a miraculous performance. Other goals from Rooney and Evra rounded of Champions league history. Roma looked like a 1st division side such was our pace and accuracy.

Marlowe… I’ve just read your comment on the forum about me not posting on the blog since our defeat to Pompey at the weekend… very amusing. I have to admit it had put a dampener on my usually overly optimistic outlook for the season, but last night reminded me as to why I am a United fan and why I love my team so much. I don’t think we have anything to worry about, we still have the advantage in the league and have our place booked in the semi finals of the champions league and FA cup. Dare we mutter the words treble at this point?

Let’s look forward to Watford and then to Sheffield United in the league. All games are must win from her on in. I think it’s all going to come right down to the wire.

Again, SAF has succesfully come out with the correct formation and player selection.

As I said before, even without Scholes, this squad can sail thru again.

Fletch played his heart out. Carrick was marshalling strongly in midfield. Overall, whole team was superb.

Worried a bit on O'Shea, hope he's not injured as our defence is getting thinner.

SAF shd have introduced Dong and Cathcart to give both lads the European night atmosphere.

We had the worst time last week and I believe the team had rebound again.

So last night wasn't a dream! To be a fly on the wall in that Roma dressing room at half-time...!

It was also good to see Chelsea go through, meaning they'll now have two intense games with Liverpool (can't quite see a PSV comeback) at the business end of the season.

But what a night!

I have to admit that I was nervous, too, before the game.My big problem was which team would score first.I was very sure of a place in the semi-finals,but I expected a 3-1 victory. What followed was really fantastic, for sure the best performance of United I 've ever seen. So,who do we prefer:Milan or Bayern? Personally,I prefer Milan.

i failed to watch the game on TV (local TV)
i managed to see the goal highlight through downloading from internet.

6 of 7 goal that our lad scored, is on the left side of the keeper :D

when you see the flaw, abuse it :D

well we've got milan now! will be interesting. they showed some serious experience going to munich and winning 2-0. i don't know much about their team but they do seem old: nesta, maldini, seedorf, inzaghi. i'm not even sure how they got to the this stage. who did they play before the 1/4's?

anyway, i think we are more than capable of taking them or anyone else on as long as we stay true to ourselves and play our game. the self-belief running through the squad must be so high right now....certainly running high among us lot!

btw: agent can you stick this vid up? found it on dailymotion (where a lot of the footytube stuff comes from) http://www.dailymotion.com/bookmarks/marlowealias/video/x1okcd_manchester-united-goal-of-the-night
it's a wicked commentary on the goals and i quite agree with the opinions.

sirmu from malaysia comments that ferguson should have introduced dong or cathcart. i'm not sure. i think testing evra on the right was well worth it...see if he could adjust and solksjaer deserves every minute he gets. richardson though i would have been happy not to see, though obviously the boss wanted to give him a bit of a boost after his horror show last sat.

well, it's on to watford. i predict 2-0 to us.

-------------VDS---------------
O'Shea----Rio----Brown----Heinze
Ronny---Fletch---Carrick---Giggs
--------Rooney------Smith-------

though interestingly i think the formation they played on tue started off 4-4-2 then went to a sort of rotating 4-5-1 depending on who was up front (Ronny, Rooney, Smith) with Ronny and Wayne heading out wide to stretch the poor Roma defence. for once rooney actually played that position well, creating space for heinze to run in behind him and linking up nicely with giggs or carrick or fletcher in the middle.

i don't really care what they play this weekend as long as they show ben foster why he can't wait to come and play for them!

A scintillating Man U performance! A dominant and commanding play coupled with brilliant individual display from the talented lads produced a stunning result no one even dreamed of.
