It's been a while so here's a quick United update!

Hi to all, it's been a while since I last posted on the blog. I've been so busy with other projects, but thought I should just check in. looking at this year from last year, it's been a real contrast. Firstly we had the European championships to keep us occupied and secondly United didn't sign anyone until the close of the transfer window. Now of course it's much better this year as we have purchased some real quality, but it does leave me kicking my heals a bit wondering what on earth to write about.

There is one more possibility of a striker coming in. He goes by the name of quagliarella. With United reportedly increasing their offer for the future Italian star, would this guy represent a shrewd acquisition for the mighty reds? If I'm honest I haven't seen too much of him, but he seems like a strong goal scorer and could be worth a punt at £13 million.

I think much of the remaining talk will be of players leaving. The three players talked about a lot recently are Alan Smith, Giuseppe Rossi and Gabrielle Heinze. For me it would be a shame to lose any of them. All have exception qualities, both Heinze and Smith played vital roles in our seasoned campaigns last season.

As always I want to hear what you have to say on the issue, so I welcome your comments, do we need to lose players? Or is our squad perfect for next seasons battle?

we definitely need to sell some players just to keep a balanced side that is full of people who want to be there. heinze it seems is keen on regular first team football. r carlos is on his way from madrid to fenerbahce and madrid will want to fill that left back space. that seems to be a foregone conclusion though i would like utd to ask for more than 5m!

smith would be a shame to lose. he loves utd. he will fight for his place and, as you said, he has some great qualities that i think will be a good addition along the way to retaining the title (!)...eg. his toughness, his vision and his goal scoring (he will improve). he's not fast but i think we will need to have more than one way of playing down the stretch. however, he's a reasonably hot property right now and utd could find a decent offer too hard to resist, just in the name of bringing in a new opportunity (that italian bloke).

as for rossi, i'm afraid i haven't seen much of him so i don't really know. if he can develop like di canio or zola (both pint sized italians) then bring him on....but that's a major if. he looks quite 'lightweight'. i think he'd be the least painful loss though sentimental in that we sort of 'raised' him i guess and it'd be like saying goodbye to a gifted son in a way.

let's just hope quagliarella (what a name!) is hot stuff. we need someone who can work with our new super midfield - ronny, nani and anderson!

I think selling Heinze or Smith (especially Heinze) will reduce the depth of the team. Smith untill today hasn't proved himself (cause of the injuries?). I 'd like to see him grabbing a final chance to show his talent... As for Rossi, I don't know almost nothing about him, only some rumours about that he is talented...

What would be the greatest of all for me? Keep the players we got (definitely in defence), and buy a bigname striker...

Considering that the Toons have placed a bid for Smith and possibly have succeeded, our deliberations about the necessity for a striker have to stop being deliberations and we would have to make some investment in that dept, if we are to succeed this season. Quagliarella, Torres and Anelka were the ones most bandied about apart from the very obvious Berbatov.. Among these Berba would be the ideal buy, after his performance in the league last year, Anelka would be a safe bet and there's no questioning his pace and technical abilities, as far as Torres goes, I have never been convinced of the player, oh yes, he's very good or else we would not be even thinking of him but is he worth what they are demanding and how much of a difference would just that one player make to a side which has not really had problems in front goal... I would rather, IF we are paying a large sum go in for a more established player or stick to the talent we have and retain the likes of Rossi, Saha and Ole. Considering that there has bee na lot of interest from larger clubs with Rossi,I think he more than deserves a chance with us.....

We need to leave room for the kids to feel that they are going to play this season. Rossi, Pigue etc COULD become very good players. We have to let some of the squad players (Browm, Heinze and Smith) go and tell the younger players that they will be playing. Remember Hanson's comments but we need to give them a chance.

Fergie is mad to be selling Heinze and Smith. He knows he needs them. They are two of the most committed red devils in the team.

Perhaps he is trying to recoup some of the losses he squandered on the trio coming in? Or maybe behind our backs the Glazers have been pressurising Fergie to get back some funds?

Hope Smith and Heinze is with us!

Cheers!

hienze, im not boverd but smith and rossi keep. both aRE very good. we should(may be not now)break the bank for sergio ramos and sell silvestre- hes past his prime and is demanding high wages. our possible big name striker shud be either berbatov or Fernando torres- most likely torres as hes younger And can develop even more. i heard that adriano(the brazillian left footed one)is a possibility cuz he is fairly young and has CL exp

agent...can you post this? it's a compilation of quagliarella...i see now why SAF is interested. he might fit in really well with our fast paced attack.

It'd be very sad if we lost any of those players. Both Heinze and Smith are fan favourites who give 110% when going for every ball. They are hard tough players and that's what we need when we have bottlers like Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand in the team.

As for Rossi, he is an exceptional talent and should not be sold under any circumstances. He wants to stay and prove himself at United, he should be allowed do so. If United turned down a bid for Barcelona for him this time last year, why would they accept one now considering he has only improved and will only improve? If Barca want him, they must see something also. It's not as if they are short of strikers.
United, on the other hand, are short of strikers. Rooney is the only reliable one we have.

has everyone forgotten about the defence?
ferdinand??silvestre??o'shea??brown??
neville is never fit, heinze is going and talk of pique going.
that leaves vidic and evra as the only quality defenders left with absolutely no strenght in depth.
never mind a new striker. get a replacement for ferdinand.
the defence is the reason why united have no chance of winning the champions league this year.
something needs to be done.
