One of the longest transfer saga’s that I can remember draws on today, much to the delight of the tabloids. It seems that United chief David Gill is reopening talks with regards to the acquisition of Hargreaves services. United have already met with officials from the German club and are set to make a decision as to whether or not they should accept a potential £15 million bid from United.
One has to wonder how long Munich can resist a transfer from the Reds, after all a happy player puts in great performances and it is clear that Hargreaves is not happy at Munich such is his desire to play in the premiership. Would Hargreaves represent the last piece of the Jigsaw in Fergusons maturing squad? Would the tireless midfielder fill the midfield void allowing us to challenge effectively on all 3 fronts? I guess only time will tell.
What would Hargreaves bring to the squad? For me the one thing Hargreaves would bring is box to box running. Keane was an energetic figure in the centre of the Park, he would charge 50-60 yards to win the ball back from the opposition, before sprinting into the opposition box to score a goal. Hargreaves can be that player, we are the best team in the premiership going forward, we score more goals than any other team, what we lack is the ability to harass the opposition and put pressure on them causing them to make mistakes.
Hargreaves would be cup tied for the champions’ league. Although not ideal I think we can cope. Carrick and Scholes are formulating a very effective pairing in the centre and I have no doubt they can continue this in Europe. Hargreaves could come in to lead the premiership and FA cup assault. How I would love to see him get man of the match against Liverpool in the FA cup, scoring a goal in the process.
Hargreaves has a broken leg! As long as he passes a medical I don’t see this as a problem either. He is training well and would hope to get him match fit in a matter of weeks and not months.
So what do I think of United signing Hargreaves? I think he will be perfect, we need just 1 more winger and the squad will be complete!

i am 100% in favour of us signing hargreaves. the way he has matured and developed over the last 4/5 yrs at munich (and with england) proves that the lad is made of proper 'keano' material! what i mean is, he is getting better as he gets mentally smarter and physically stronger - just what you need for that role.
there is a question about how he would fit into the current system - replace carrick (long term...with fresh champs league campaign next season)? or work alongside scholes in front of carrick...? eventually replacing scholes?
either way, i'm for it. competition for places from talented players can only be a good thing. look at heinze and evra (though we may lose heinze of course).
i was wondering what your thoughts might be on our future goalkeeping problems. it looks like SAF has finally found the right mix of youth and experience for the team and is building a really succesful team around some great young players but what happens next season when EVS is another year closer to 40yrs old? do we really want to bring tim howard back? we all liked him to begin with but then his confidence evaporated....does he have it back? does he have the authority needed? note how he has yet to repalce keller or friedel in goal for the US (though that may change with a new coach).
anyway, just planning ahead!
excited about jan purchases.
This is great news. I completely agree with you agent, Hargreaves IS the missing piece of the puzzle. And yes, a new and ambidextrious winger would be perfect. Imagine 2 or three seasons from now, the mature pairing of Carrick and Hargreaves in the center, two exciting wingers like Cristiano Ronaldo and say, Nani... or the one-sided Quaresma... England's battling spirit and smart passing flanked by Portuguese flair, speed, and trickery. A midfield to fear, no doubt about it.
With United, it's all about replacements. Replacing the greats. Ronaldo has almost made me forget Beckham. Though he is missed, I thought his absence would fill a bigger void. As for Roy Keane, the irreplaceable Captain Courageous, how United has tried and failed to find the new version... I have great hopes for Hargreaves in this role, alongside Carrick, who will no doubt step up and assume the creative responsibility currently held by the great Paul Scholes. Replacing Giggs will prove to be a feat as well. Speed, tricks, goals, and an enormous amount of influence on the rest of the squad. We need a special winger.
All the best boys,
Ro
