Manchester United 4 Watford 1 review and highlights

11 goals in 2 games can’t be bad, can it? The weekend game against Watford yet again allowed Manchester United to show off their offensive prowess. The new look formation with Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo and Smith all working in a rotating format seems to be working like a dream. The only worry is Ferdinand, who limped off with a worrying groin injury. We hope that he will be fit for the weekend trip to Middlesbrough.

Darren Fletcher deserves the praise he is getting at the moment. To fill in at right-back, a position I don’t think I have ever seen him play was brilliant. It seems at the moment, no matter how many injuries we have, there is always another player who can step up and do the job. Yes we will need our key men back for games against Chelsea, but I have faith that our fringe players can hold us together.

Did anybody watch match of the day 2 last night? They are so biased on that program. It’s always ex Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea players on the show, who always seem to think that a team other than United will win competitions. The best was last night when Peacock decided that Chelsea would win all three ties against United and take both cups. His reason? They have match winners all over the pitch. Erm Scholes, Rooney, Giggs Ronaldo and even Carrick and Smith anyone? I don’t think its gonna be that easy Gavin. Well to be fair to the old chap, he was only ever a runner up in the FA cup with Chelsea.

Smith, what a revelation he has been for us in his 2 starts. He adds something new to the team. A fight a vigour and a real cutting edge. He can play that killer through-ball, he can hold it up, allowing time for the likes of Ronaldo and Rooney to join the attack, he can roam like the 2 R’s and Giggs and he can shoot. For me, he has been the reason we have scored 11 in 2, he was involved in 3 of the 4 goals this weekend.

Ronaldo had a quiet day on Saturday…. Still scored a goal though! Rooney was scintillating which was refreshing. The new formation seems to allow him much more space and time for the little flicks and passes that he so loves. His first goal was class, it’s great to see him finding form again and at the right end of the season.

Well ladies and gentleman. That’s enough from me, Tuesday sees us face Sheffield United, we must keep the pressure on, we can’t let Chelsea get any closer.

Here are the highlights of the game against Watford. Enjoy!

Hey Agent.

I agree with you completeley on your last post.

The entire squad has contributed to getting where United is at the momenet. I was the first to criticize Fletcher at the start of the season, but I've had to eat my words the past week. Amazing.

And to see Richardson come in and score like that, shows that everyone wants to make the starting 11, and I'm sure Sir Alex's job is much harder now than it was at the beginning of the season.

Alan Smith, has been a breath of fresh air. His heart's the size of Old Trafford! You highlighted all of his skills. It's delightful to see him so involved in the past couple of matches. I'm sure he'll only get better in the following weeks. Smudger's set to make Saha's life quite difficult. It does make you think, though, that Saha took to the bench when Larsson came in. And Smith's performances have certainly been much better than Saha's recent occasional showings. Let's hope the Frenchman can contribute to in these crucial weeks.

Take care friends.

i've said it before and i'll keep saying it....smith is brilliant! he was brilliant for leeds (note how he held the ball up in their CL run...especially the 1/4 final against a team i can't remember), and was great for us for half a season before he snapped his leg in two.

i would hazard that the level he seems to be playing at now is partly down to that injury. you know how some players gain an awareness of the game when they're forced to reconsider their playing style. i think he has now added a sweet defence-splitting passing ability which rooney will thrive on. that first goal against watford is perhaps even better than the second rooney goal in showing how smith's awareness of not just his own players but the opposition has come on in leaps and bounds. to step over that ball after giggs had just done the same and let it run on for the onrushing rooney was genius, and he made it look so casual too, like he was planning it all along, even though it's clear from the replay that he can only have thought about it at the last second....smart lad!

i think SAF may just be considering holding off on torres and saving himself some cash this summer! who needs an out and out striker when you've got rooney, ronaldo, giggs and smith all trading places and making defences look like melted butter. i'm very curious to see how they shape up against maldini and nesta!!

and what about giggs? i haven't noticed this before, but in recent matches have you noticed how he discusses the goal with the scorer afterward, clearly delighting in the way the team moved and created the whole thing....watch the highlights...it's hilarious! he's obviously just really enjoying himself out there.
