Manchester United Transfer News 17-05-2007

Good morning people, it’s not long to go now until the FA cup final. I’m sure you will all join me in hoping that Jose finds his little yourkie terrier safe and sound. It must be a torrid time for the little thing! On a lighter note Ladbrokes are offering odds of 500-1 that he will make a pitch invasion on Saturday.

Transfer news has been quiet over the past couple of days, but there are a couple of stories that have come out this morning that may be of interest. Let’s kick things off with a story in the Sun about Mark Viduka. Read the article here. I think for a free transfer this guy could work perfectly. He is strong and can hold the ball up well. The only problem would be his pace, but he could be used as and when to provide another option.

The Daily Star is assuring us that Bale will definitely move to either Manchester United or Tottenham this summer in light of them missing out on qualification to the premiership. This old news to be honest, I think we will get him as he is quick, can tackle and can cross. I think United is a bigger pull than Tottenham!

What is going on with Saha? The guy is always injured. I think it might be high time the Frenchman moved on. We need a clearout of certain individuals if we are to progress. Players I think we can afford to let go are Richardson, Silvestre and Saha. That would provide us with the extra funds we need to bring in the big boys!

Hey lads

I agree some people should leave the club this summer.

Saha, with his injuries and frankly, poor form, seems to be the first one out. It's unfortunate about his fitness, but even when he is fit, he hasn't shown us the player who sent Ruud to the bench last season, no easy task. That said, Ruud scored many more goals than Saha did, and spent six months or so coming in late in the second half.

If Silvestre were to leave, a new defender must come in for him. This season taught us the importance of having a deeper squad, and 7 or 8 defenders is an adequate number. In Rio, Vidic, Heinze, Evra, Neville and Brown, we have six world class defenders. And let's not forget Mr. Versatility, John O'Shea, whose had a great season in 5 or 6 different positions!

Silvestre has performed well, but he does seem to be below the standard the rest of our defenders have set, and there is no way that Gaby or Wes should be sold. They have undoubtedly proven their worth, as have newest additions, Evra and Vidic. One more quality defender, along with O'Shea, should provide adequate cover and competition for the back line.

Richardson's case is a complicated one. I hoped he would be the homegrown talent to take over the left wing. A product of the youth system, he showed great promise, especially while on loan at West Brom. But this season he seldom appeared on the pitch, and when he did, he seldom impressed. The odd goals he scored were bittersweet. We know he's a top performer, but something hindered his consistency. It's time to find the player capable of replacing Giggs, and Richardson hasn't shown us that he is that player.

Overhauling a squad is not an easy job. Carrick's arrival did wonders to our squad this term, as did several players' return to fitness. Three well-thought signings could translate into three well-deserved titles.

Let's win the Cup, lads!

Hi my name is Steve and it's so wonderful to have stumbled upon this blog.

I agree that people like Saha and Silvestre should go. Saha, because of his consistent runs with injuries, should be sold this summer. As for Silvestre, really, I like him, he's a good player, perhaps his time has come to leave United so that he can bless other clubs with his skills.

I can't wait for Hargreaves to come. It's almost certain that he will be joining in soon. And there's fresh talk about a Brazilian striker Alfonso Alves from Heereveen. Maybe he's the answer all this while to a competent and deadly striker?

Anyways, me and my mates set up a blog for Man United as well.

I dont care if these guys play in weaker leagues - some of the goals scored by 'Mohamed Zidan' (Danish League), 'Alfonso Alves' (34 goals in 1 season in the Dutch league) & FC Porto's 19-year old Brazilian 'Anderson' (a BEAST!) should be considred in my humble view. Check out threads on these players & tell me we couldn't find place for them in a regular position.
I completely agree with investment in youth but also attracting world class to walk into the starting 11 - I reckon these additions would compensate both criteria! Andy W.
