Manchester United Transfer News 23/05/2007

Good morning fellow United fans, after the drab performance at the weekend, we are left kicking our heals, doing housework and generally making nuisances of ourselves. For after tonight we hit a baron spot of club football. Of course tonight sees Milan and Liverpool battle it out for the champions league crown. I think you’ll all join me in wishing AC Milan the best of luck?!

So onto transfers, it was reported this morning that Bale could move to either Tottenham or United in a cut-price deal, such is Southampton’s financial situation. Please let’s not make this another Berbatov saga, where we had the opportunity to sign him, then Tottenham stole him from under our noses!

The Gudjohnsen deal has reared its head again, with West Ham reportedly lining up an £8 million deal. Do you think he could cut the mustard at United? Such is our pace and attacking flair! For me we need someone with more pace and skill than Gudjohnsen. Eto or Torres would fit the bill more aptly I think.

With Hargreaves, I look forward to him being unveiled as our next midfield honcho. It has been some time since we have had a real ball winner in midfield, I think that we missed that on Saturday and I am hoping he will add that aggression next season, oh next season seems so far away!

Bale is already on his way to Spurs (BBC reports)

I dont think Eto'o or Torres would come. Torres is not even interested in moving out of AM! Why would we want a non-interested player? I would much like Quagliarella to come. He publicly said he loves United and he is quality! Play Rooney upfront as main striker (he is so much underrated I guess) and Quagliarella/Rossi in Cantona/kaka position! Ronaldo, Scholes/Giggs to support them and Carrick/OH to do ball-winning/passing work. And we do need so many people in the middle. Just imagine if something happens to Roanldo. This season we were so much incredibly lucky that Ronaldo was injury-free almost all the time!

What do you think?

you know, watching our very tired players last saturday, i was reminded yet again how the really good teams are able to stop us playing our game. chelsea did a very professional job of cutting off our supply to the second third. what i mean is our first pass or two which stops opposition attack and switches the momentum forward was good (thanks to rio and vidic!) but the next one or two passes never really found their mark. as a result ronny was peripheral and giggs seemed to be fighting by himself for most of the game.

obviously SAF loves to create a team that moves quickly and beautifully forward, and i'm not one to argue against that. i love it and much prefer it to chelski's system which reminds me of germany's 1990 team. but i think we can all agree that the arrival of hargreaves will go a long way to helping us solidify that link between the second third and final third. for all scholes's brilliant vision, delightful spins and ball control, he's not naturally the man to sit just in front of defenders, pick up the ball and create the space for others to go forward. we want him just behind the front three so rooney, ronny and giggsy (or torres, eto'o, quaresma...) can take advantage of his genius.

carrick will only benefit from having someone like hargreaves to play off, and i'm really confident that those two, along with fletcher and o'shea, will form an adaptable and positive middle line throughout next season. the first two for the big games and the second two as dependable and goal-scoring understudies.

i'm a bit lost on the striker situation. i'm keen on berbatov just cuz he's already proved himself in the EPL, and i'm not totally convinced about torres. then again, i haven't had much chance to learn about him.

an even bigger concern, i think, is right back. there hasn't been much talk about that position and neville is bound to pick up another long term injury again - partly cuz he is so committed and partly cuz he's getting, how do you say?...a bit long in the teeth?
