Man Utd V Newcastle match review and trnasfer news

Well people, I’m sure a lot of you are back at work for the first time in over a week. I thought it was important to get back into the swing of writing on the blog again after a brief holiday break. Anyhow enough of the subtleties let’s get onto th3e important stuff…. United.

It was 2 points dropped yesterday as a dogged Newcastle scored 2 fantastic goals to ensure the score was 2-2. united were dominant as expected, with Scholes getting on the Score sheet twice to bring United from behind to lead 2-1. It was a wonder goal from debutant Edgar that soured our day and allows Mourinho to close the gap to 4 points, should they beat Aston Villa tonight.

United for all their domination couldn’t find that late winner. Solano was on hand to provide a last minute clearance off the line allowing his team to get a valuable point for the maggies. All credit should be given to Newcastle for their performance with no less than 16 first team players out with injury, they stood up well even if United did have 20 shots on goal.

Other results this Christmas have been favourable. Despite the loss at West Ham, performances have been of the highest standard. Fergie has rotated the team to full effect, meaning all players have remained fresh and raring to go at a congested time in the fixture list.

In transfer news, it has been surprisingly quiet, the tabloids are not reporting with the usual hype that we have come to expect over recent years. The only real development (as if we didn’t already know) is that Fergie will make another move for Hargreaves as his leg is recovering well. We know there is money to spend, but who should we spend it on?

Finally the arrival of Laarson and Rossi means we have great strength up front, defence is looking good as well, I guess our only real weakness is in midfield, but the picture there is all the more rosy than I first though at the start of the season. Park has provided welcome relief for the wingers and has been bright for the most part.

Well that’s it form me for today.. It’s great to be back writing on the blog again, hope you all had a fantastic new year!

P.S here is a brief insight into the United behind the scenes, it’s from the dressing room of united after they won the carling cup! Enjoy

If they can get that excited over the Carling Cup, heaven knows what the dressing room'll be like if the Premiership is won this year!

Welcome back agent, and best wishes for the new year.

It was a great december for United, as you said. Some fantastic performances and a good reaction to the squad rotation that is necessary in this busy month. I thought many of the bench players stood up to the test and gave great performances, especially Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Gaby Heinze. Ole has been particularly inspirational this month, it's really great to see him back in action.

Fletcher has done a decent job this month, although I thought he played slack football against Newcastle. Silvestre has also been just 'decent'.

I've been very disappointed with Park, I must say. I agree, our starting wingers can now rest, but in my opinion, we lose too much footbal when he is on the pitch. Against Reading, the swap for Giggs made all the difference. And against Newcastle, he came in for an injured Saha and missed two clear chances, and even found it difficult just to control the ball. I think he still needs to regain match fitness, and hope he reaches his full potential soon.

I think Saha's groin has been bothering him long before yesterday's match. He hasn't looked like himself the past month. Let's hope for a quick and FULL recovery.

Transfers:
Larsson will play on Saturday. He should have an impact on the rest of the squad. Glad we have him.

Rossi's back, great news. I'm sure he will contribute to our triple cause this season.

Rumours about Heinze's departure are worrying me quite a bit. He's one of our best performers, and it seems AC Milan and Valencia both want him this summer, when his current deal runs out. I won't panic, but he can't leave United.

Hargeaves: let's hope he comes in within the next few weeks.

you can tell the carling cup doesn't mean much to them. can't wait to see the behind the scenes when/if they lift the treble again this season!!

but seriously, we can all certainly feel good about how things are going. let's just hope we have some really good signings in jan.

i happened to watch a few spanish league games over the hollidays: saw seville and was really impressed with danny alves...i think benitez has his eye on him. he's tough, skillful and is a DM who can score!

also saw torres play. he's is a hundred leagues above his teammates at atletico, and that includes maniche. he tends to move out wide, but he when has his sights on goal he almost always gets a shot off. similar skills to ronny....imagine those two playing on either side of rooney!!!

anyway, happy new year to everyone. i feel we deserve it this year. my good friend who is unfortunately (for him) an arsenal fan, told me today he really wants us to win the title off chelsea, and not just cuz he hates chelsea but cuz he thinks we are the best team, are great to watch and play the best football!
