Man Utd V Middlesbrough match review and highlights

Another fantastic 3 points well deserved on Saturday as we move 6 points clear of Chlesea. It was a determined performance from our lads, who never seemed like conceding the points in a tough game in harsh conditions.

Rooney was magnificent, as was Ronaldo, although controversially the Portuguese had a little trouble staying on his feet. Ronaldo won a penalty early on when he tried to avoid a challenge from Mark Schwarzer. The referee had seen enough and awarded the penalty. Up stepped Saha after his nightmare week and coolly converted!

United looked strong on the ball, Rooney and Ronlado looked like they would split the Middlesbourgh defence open at any time, although the next chance game surprisingly at the other end. A free kick was nearly converted by Jonathan Woodgate, fortunately in ricocheted off the post and United were safe.

For all United’s creativity, the second goal was not forthcoming and the reds went into half time only 1 the better. Southgate mixed it up at half time bringing on the young self confessed United fan James Morrison. His contribution was marked with a goal, his low volley beating Van Der Sar.

The home fans had hardly stopped celebrating when down the other end, a neat piece of trickery from Ronaldo set up Giggs to cross into the box and Fletcher to head the ball in to make it 2-1. United looked like a team that wanted it so badly, it was 3 points or nothing!

The performance on Saturday demonstrated just how far we have come in 12 months! We are strong at the back and massively dangerous going forward. Mourinho does not like the break his team has and for good reason. They are now 6 points behind and they know that nothing less than victories will suffice. His team are in danger of trying to force results which is never good.

Finally for all you football manager fans out there. I checked out Nani last night, he is class and available for £16million (on the game). The other player that I have found quite handy is a guy called Montiel, he is an attacking midfielder with blistering pace and a mean shot, whatsmore he’s only 18! Fergie… Check him out.

P.s here are the highlights from Saturdays game

works fine for me.

agent...wondering what your thoughts are on the bbc's opinion that saha looked out of sorts, not connecting with his team mates. i thought he did a decent job, but a few key moments the others didn't pick him out.

love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Agent

I just bought FM2007 a weeks back and i must say im addicted. However i am having a bit of trouble with training my players. Can you please help? Every time i check on my players, their attributes are always on the decline. Any suggestions.

By the way who does montiel play for? I would really appreciate help on how to scout players as well, cos when i assign my scouts to countries they come back with nothing.

You can e-mail the reply to my private e-mail address which is Yusuf.maiter@standardbank.co.za

Thanks

Chio

Hi Yusuf,
Welcome to the fm2007 club, the game is a lot like pringles, once you pop you just can't stop. I did a 5 hour stint yesterday. In terms of training your players, you need to hire some good coaches each specialising in particular attributes and assigning them to the appropriate traing programme. I setup 1 training program for dc,wingbacks, dm, am, wingers and strikers and focus different attributes appropriate for the position, I won't give you my exact formula because it ruins the excitement and learning process of the game, but tinker until you find the optimum levels. It is also important to remember that as in real life, all players wont improve all the time. Some will always go through rough patches and some declines shouold be expected.

For scouting, you can send them to a particular country for days, but often they dont find many people. I always focus on youth when building my teams so i find a better way to find players is goto the international u21 and u19 teams and scout various playeres from there. The best way to build up scouted lists is to go through teams and request 3 match report cards for players. Get into the habit of scouting players when you look at them and you will soon build up a large list of scouted players!

The thing with fm2007 (well all the fm series) the more effort you put in, the more you will get out and so it is important to tweak your training schedules and scout lots of players on a continual basis.

To build up your finances to buy players try and get a feeder club from either Japan, China or the USA, with United I have managed to get a merchendising income of £24 million per month so my balance is healthy.

Whilst I am thinking about it, it is really important to focus on your reserve and u-18 teams in fm2007. Send players out to your feeder clubs to gain valuable match experience, if not list them for loan and try and feed them out that way!

These are just some pointers, hope they help in your quest for fm domination.

Hi Agent

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

With regards to the training, i am doing exacetly what you do, but it doesnt seem to be working. I guess i will have to try harder.

With regards to feeder clubs, how do you set them up? and how do you generate income?

By the way which club does montiel come from?

I bought Van der waart in my first season, and he is doing well.

I wouls appricate if you could mail me at my personal e-mail address, that way we can chat better.

Till next time.

Hi Yusuf,
its easier if i post in here, then if anyone has similar issues they get to see my posts. I'm thinking of setting up an fm2007 blog when i have a little more know-how.
I'm not sure what club montiel came from, you need large db and i also have some country's players loaded as well.
In terms of training, check to see that you haven't set your training to high (or low) i like to push my players as i have a big squad so can afford more injuries, i think that the more I push them, the more they will improve, but they do sometimes say that they are unhappy with the training regime (look at training on the actual player)
hope this helps
