Man Utd V Crewe and David Beckham

Tonight sees us take on Crewe in the Carling cup. The Carling cup has grown in importance for Man Utd in recent years as it gives Sir Alex and opportunity to give the youngsters a run out and valuable first team experience.

There is often talk about our youngsters at Man Utd by the fans and by other clubs, but such is the competitiveness of the premiership these days that many of them do not get enough of a chance on the big stage. This is no-ones fault but the Carling cup is now that chance for the players to show their worth. Last year we did fantastically well and won the trophy.

I think that now is a good time for us to talk about the Rossi loan move. It was a complete waste of time to send him there and Ferguson has every right to be furious with Roeder. In essence Rossi has moved further north to train with worse players, getting no first team football. He should be recalled where Fergie can develop him as he has done with so many other players.

It looks as thought David Beckham will not be at Madrid next year. People have said that bringing him back to Manchester would be a step backwards, but I disagree. He is one of the golden boys of the 90’s, the only problem I would foresee is the lack of first team opportunities that he would get. Of course it will probably never happen, Fergie is unlikely to bury the hatchet after so long.

All in all times are good at the moment. If we keep up our winning ways until Christmas we can strengthen if required and carry on our usual assault on the title during the run-in period.

I agree about bringing Rossi back in January and maybe giving him some first team time which would mean Rooney/Saha could be used more sparingly and saved for the return to the Champions League in late February and the Premiership run in, even if he only gets the odd second half of play.

Rossi would have been perfect for the Carling cup this year.

Beckham I just don't see being brought back. I think you are right Agent about him being a useful squad player but the hype/publicity that still surrounds him would unsettle the releative calmness that I beleive is working to the benefit of the team at the minute and I just can't see him returning, afterall that was a major part of Fergie getting rid of him in the first place.

Anyway, Rossi and Hargreaves for January!!

Under previous ownership, Beckham's return would have been almost impossible. Yet with the arrival of the Glazers, Becks commercial value and our thin midfield resources; perhaps this year is the time to welcome him back to OT. If SAF is determined to get Hargreaves and/or Nani in the transfer window though, where would Beckham fit in?

On the Rossi issue, I read Newcastle fans begging Roeder to play him more often. Hopefully he'll soon be given a chance to prove himself ahead of Heskey
Mark II Ameobi and get the necessary experience for next season.
