United March on as they crush Copenhagen!

Another fantastic night of champion’s league football saw United continue their 100% winning ways leaving them top of the group and cruising. It was a memorable night that saw Wayne Rooney as captain and Paul Scholes grab his first goal of the season.

From the very start of the game United showed their dominance and should have been ahead in the first minute following a sublime through ball from Rooney to Saha only for the Frenchman to skew wide.

Rooney showed that he was back to his best controlling the play with neat passing and flicks linking the midfield and forward play almost seamlessly. He obviously relished the opportunity of being captain and was determined to lead his men from the field victorious.

United looked solid at the back, this was probably more to do with Copenhagen’s lack of creativity more than anything. For all their effort they never really looked to threaten the reds as United piled more and more pressure onto their opponents.

The breakthrough came on the 39th minute, when Scholes fired home a trademark long range drive to make it 1-0. The Copenhagen fans, who had been the most vocal for the first half hour were silence with chants of “champions league, your ‘avin a laugh, champions league, your ‘avin a laugh”.

United again had the bit between their teeth and were determined to finish the game off. John O’shea headed home from the restart and Richardson killed the game off on 83 when Christiansen fumbled his long range shot to make it 3-0. Overall it was a confident performance from a team not at full strength. In reality United could have easily had 3 or 4 more such was their quality of play.

Sunday sees us take on Liverpool at Old Trafford. We all know that winning is the only option here. We must play with the confidence and belief that we have demonstrated in the past 2 games. I have no doubt we can do it. Victory would see us 11 points clear of our bitter rivals and beating them is oh so sweet! Bring on the scousers!

Decent performance against Copenhagen but we will need to be much improved in front of goal against Liverpool on Sunday.

Carrick needs to improve a lot! He's beginning to remind me of Veron - occassional nice pass, runs around a lot but doesn't do much tackling which as the defensive midfielder he should be doing. Without the 'ginger one' in midfield we would have been bollocks - god bless Scholesy. Evra is another one who still needs to improve - he gets caught in possession when going forward too often, he needs to think a bit quicker.

The match against Liverpool will give us a much better impression as to where this team is at. I think the fixture list so far this season has been very favourable to us and I'm not sure if we are actually as good we we appear to be.
