Ruud Van Nistelrooy currently undergoing a medical in Real Madrid. If this goes through OK Madrid will unveil him at a press conference at 18.00 BST. The troubled United striker had handed in a written transfer request at the start of the month amidst rumours he had fallen out with manager Alex Ferguson.
The switch will come as a welcome relief to the United legend who, for the tail end of last season was demoted to the bench due to the outstanding form of Luis Saha. However Ruud is still considered one of the best strikers in the world, finishing second highest top scorer in the premiership last season.
Ruud will link up with old team mate David Beckham, a player Ruud accreditted many of his goals to in the early stages of his Career at Manchester United. Beckham also left Old Trafford in 2002 under a cloud of controversy, having also had a bust up with the old time gaffer who celbrates his 20th year in charge this season.
A fee for the deal has not been closed, however a Spanish radio station claimed earlier in the week that Real had tabled a bid of just over £10 million. This is some way off United's valuation of £15 million and would seem somewhat strange considering Bayern are believed to have offered £11 million for the want away striker.
The sale of Ruud Van Nistelrooy will provide manager Ferguson with yet more cash to add to his war chest for him to strengthen his squad. Many Manchester united fans have expressed concerns at the lack of transfer activity in the market this term, some have claimed the club is struggling to service the huge debt the club is saddled with after the Glazer takeover. The signing of Carrick this week may do something to alleviate those fears.
