Alan Smith was today back in training creating hope that he will be ready for first team appearances by the end of August. Smith who sufferred a hurendous injury whilst trying to black a john Arne Risse free kick last season started gentle exercise at the beginning of this month. Fergusen has been qupted as being "delighted" at the sight of the £7 million Leeds man training with the other compatriots. Smith was bought as a strike by Fergie however spent much of last season in the midfield role in an attempt to bridge the gap left by retiring utd hero Roy Keane.
Fergusen has stated that he intends to use Smith as a striker for the 06/07 campaign with Rooney choosing him as his prefered partner up front. Personally I think Smith opereates more effectively as a striker than as a midfield player, this demonstrated by his early flurry of goals at the start of last season. Whether he can replace the outgoing RVN remains to be seen however, but i am ever the optimist.
