Fergie has finally got his man in a £15 million deal that will see the creative battler in the heart of the United midfield next Season. Carrick has been on Fergusons hitlist for the most part of this summer, however Tottenham have been reluctant to sell as they saw him as key to their success in the 2006/2007 campaign.
However Carrick earlier this week refused to sign a new contract at Spurs that would have trippled his wages to £45,000 per week, in line with King's wages, the club captain. Carrick had made it perfectly clear by not signing that he wanted a move a way from the London club and hoped that United would come in with an improved bid.
He got his way and Ferguson came in with an improved bid after selling Ruud Van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid today for £11 million. Carrick will be a welcome signing to United fans who were all to aware of the lack of pinache in the heart of midfield. Scholes and Carrick will now form a formidable partnership in the centre of the park, with many United team mates suggesting the ginger warrior has found a new lease of life. This was clearly demonstrated with his 2 goals against Celtic earlier this week.
Will Ferguson recruit further midfielders this summer? that remains to be seen, but with people suggesting he has a transfer budget of almost £50 million (sale of Mikel, & Ruud and the £25 million promised by the Glazers per season) i would not be surprised. Up front we have Smith Saha, Wazza, Solskjaer and Rossi, which in my oppinion is plaenty fo fire power. One more battler such as mascherano would set us up perfectly to bring the title home.

Was Carrick a god signing? who else should we bring in?

i would love to see mascherano at united, but where would he play? like to hear your opinion
I think he could be moulded into the centre of midfield in a 4-4-2 formation. I know that he doesn't play that position currently but when i saw him play at the world cup he reminded me so much of Keane 10 years ago. At 22 he has time to adapt to the English game. that is the problem with many south american players in the Premiership, they come over too late and find it difficult to change their style. I guess he could play the holding role, but i have been unconvinced when we play that formation in the past. What do you think?
