Transfer of Hargreaves to Manchester United?

Well by popular request I have written this quick article on Hargreaves.The BBC article here confirms what we all suspected. The midfield warrior wants to take the next step in his career and move to Manchester United. I have noticed that some people are sceptical of us signing such a player on the back of a great world cup, where he was voted England’s best player, but United fans fear no more.

I have spoken to a couple of Bayern Munich fans and they assure me that Hargreaves has had a blinding couple of seasons for them. They describe him as the ultimate utility midfielder. He plays the holding role to great effect, although his tackling can be a little off key he is certainly not a poor tackler by any means. His diversity on the field is what makes him so special.

We can draw certain parallels with the Hargreaves speculation to a certain Christiano Ronaldo, who allegedly game out to the press declaring he wanted a move to Real Madrid. Man Utd issued a number of statements saying their man was going nowhere and this seems to have stuck, with Madrid in particular backing down.

However will the allure of premiership football be too strong for Hargreaves? Has he set his sights on moving, so much so that it would be impossible for him to move back to the German champions? On the surface it seems there is a lot going for Englishman moving to England. After all most of his family live in the UK and he has expressed a desire to be closer to them. If United were to sign him there would be the beginnings of one of the strongest English partnerships that there has been for many years. Watch out Chelsea.

P.S thanks for the notification guys, hope you enjoy the article

I have to say I'm very excited about the possibility of Hargreaves moving to United. With Hargreaves, Carrick and Scholes sitting in the midfield, with Rooney and Ronaldo just in front of them and then Saha up front, we have the makings of a very attacking side. Couple this with a first choice back four of Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic/Brown, Heinze and Van Der Sar and I think we have all the strength to compete with anyone in the Premiership and Champions League.

This is not too mention a bench comprising of Giggs, Solskjaer, Silvestre, Richardson and the new Polish boy.

I have to admit I am more excited about Hargreaves coming to Old Trafford than Senna (although the articles I have read about Senna in the past few weeks have certainly shown why SAF might want to sign him).

Do you think we have the capabilities/desire to sign both Hargreaves and Senna - our midfield would then be very strong indeed.

I think we need one further player in the midfield and we would definately be able to compete with any side, no doubt. I read somewhere that Vilereal wanted £8 million for Senna... Are they serious? he's 30!! If we signed both there would be strong competition for places, which would be good, however I would like to see Jones make the step up this season and if we signed 2 midfielders i think he would struggle to make an impact! I must admit we are looking stronger all the time and I think I will place a bet for us to win the title seeing as we are longer odds than liverpool. Who would you rather have? Pennant, Bellamy and Garcia or Rooney Ronaldo and Scholes?

hargreaves could be just the player we need to sit in midfield and be effective where none of the current squad seem to be effective.

It appears Bayern have come out strongly against this. Adds to the sense of frustration that we have suffered this season. I hope he does come as we certainly need someone, despite my more guarded comments yesterday.

I suppose we have been burnt so much in the transfer market that I am becoming risk-averse, but this is the sort of gamble we need to take. We also need to make a statement to the premiership.

When united were in their hey-day we had a significant advantage when we walked onto the pitch just by the fear we put into teams with our teamsheet. I think;

VDS, GH, RF, NV, GN, MC, PS, OH, CR, WR, LS

looks fantastic on paper, and would also be a young, skillful and combatitive side. You can also easily switch to 4-4-2 and scholes and carrick could alternate sometimes and get some rest, with giggsy and ronnie doing something similar.

...but, once again, this is all wishful thinking.
