Who else Should Fergie Buy?

With the apparent imminent signing of Senna from Villareal, has Fergie made the right choice? Is a 30 year old midfielder what we really need? and if not who should we have bought instead to add some vigour to the middle of the park? Do we need to sign anyone else and if so who should it be?

I am a little dubious about Senna. Although I have never seen him play it strikes me that buying a 30 year old player is simply a stop gap to finding a permanent replacement. For me someone like Hargreaves would offer much better value for money even if he would cost upwards of £8 million. Of course Mascherano would be the perfect candidate but Utd have officially cooled their interest in the promising youngster. Fergie is also probably thinking that he is a £25 million signing and it would be a bank breaker were he to splash out. Perhaps he wants to hold something back for January in case he needs to reinforce due to injuries. Fergie is not normally a January transfer man, however the introduction of Vidic last season helped to provide cover for an injury ridden defence.

Now we must turn our attention to up front. I think that Saha and Rooney will be fine up front. But with Saha's injury worries, can the gaffer rely on Solskjaer, Rossi and Smith to provide adequate cover? If not then who should we be ear marking to bring in? Many Man Utd fans have been calling for Torres the Spanish wonder kid. There is a 249 page discussion going on the Utd message board about bringing him in. But at £27 million I just don’t see him as good value. He is class and has a lot of potential but for club he hasn't quite set the world on fire. Buying players on the back of a good world cup is always dangerous. I'm sure we all remember Diouf and Baros being snapped up for exorbitant fees. I am not for one minute saying Torres is in their league, only that we should be careful where we spend our money and who we spend it on. Personally I think we have enough cover, but a striker in the January window is a possibility. But who should it be? Or will it be too late then? Over to you.....

How can you say Torres has not set the world on fire for his club: top scoreer in Spain for the past four (I think) seasons...

Torres was 6th top scorer last season with 16 goals.

2003/2004 it was Ronaldo:

and I'm not sure about the rest. Torres has been Athletico Madrid'stop scorer for 4 seasons running and there is no doubt he is their best striker. In fact I think he is a very good player, but the point I was trying to make is that you have to be 100% certain when you pay £25 million for a player and i think he needs maybe one more season to get to that stage. I know you all think I'm wrong though lol!

Fernando Torres is the Star of a mediocre team. He (almost) singlehandedly promoted Athletico to First Division, and as 'Agent" said, has been their top scorer for years. Furthermore, he's their captain, even though he is one of the side's younger players. Without a doubt, he's the crowd's favorite, and Spain's hope for international competitions, along with David Villa (who would be a great signing himself).
I compare his present situation with Rooney's at Everton, because everyone knew Wayne was a rare talent at the time, perhaps too good for his club. And Rooney certainly did not set the club world on fire while at Everton, simply because he had very little help from his teammates. Rooney's transition to a top level footballer started with a move for a top level club; who can forget his debut CL hat-trick? And who can forget Ruud's perfect assist for one of Rooney's goals?
What I mean is that I believe Fernando Torres will truly shine with quality players around him, as Rooney has, and will be able to contribute to the entire team's performance. He's not the only striker out there, but certainly my favorite when compared to Ibrahimovic.
