Is there really a rift between Rooney and Ronaldo?

The press have had an absolute field day with this one. The way they were talking the pair were going to savage each other the day they met again in training. The press portrayed Rooney as some kind of territorial animal who was looking for revenge or even blood to appease his sending off during the world cup. So how bad is the rift between the two players. Will they bbe able to play in the same team together again?

Let's look at what actually happened. Rooney stupidly stamped on a portugese players leg. Now Rooney protests that it was an accident as he was sandiched between 2 players. But I think any football sense knows that that was far from the case. Rooney was frustrated at the lack of service he was receiving and decided to lash out, it was glaringly apparent to me (well on reflection and after I had sobered up it was). Now if you play for the oppostition you waould ask the referee to do something about that. Remember at the time Ronaldo was playing for Portugal not Man Utd. Ok the wink and the card gestures were over the top and Ronaldo should have done that, but the only person to blame for the sending off was Rooney.

So the press make it out that its judgement day when the pair meet, I think that was on Tuesday. But alas no bust up and no blood was shed. I have seen some brilliant article wriitten in the papers over the past couple of days that really have put the creative talents of the journalists to the test. This one is good. here, but my favorite has to be the article where they analyse Rooney's T-shirt to show his intent, I can't find the article but it is on this blog somewhere. Anyway the point is the press are really scraping the barrel with this one.

So looking to the future will the boys ever be friends? Well it will take some time, but when you have a father figure like Fergie at the helm it is difficult to see how the pair can remain enemies. You just know one of Fergies first tasks upon his return from friendly duty was to get the pair in a room and say "I don't care what went on this summer. I don't care who's fault it was, It stops her. You are both Manchester United players and you play for me, as a team GOT IT?" Both Rooney and Ronaldo nod their heads like naughty little school boys and skulk back to training with their tales between their legs. Later that day Ronaldo gets called back in to Fergies office for a chat about his conversations with the press and Real Madrid, but I'll svae that story for another time.
