There has been lots of talk on this blog of new players coming in of late. Of course this is speculation but fans like to speculate. We can dream and why shouldn’t we? Today I want to talk about a new assistant manager. Queiroz has been linked with the Porto job in the papers today. This would seem like an ideal job for the Portuguese number 2, taking the helm of the largest side in his home country. Would this be a good thing for United? Or would he be sorely missed?
There have been a number of assistant managers to Fergie over the years. There was Brian Kidd, Mclaren and now Queiroz. All have offered ideas and inspiration to the Scott and some have moved on to other things. Queiroz left to become Real Madrid coach and then decided to return after results didn’t go his way.
Some have suggested that Queiroz has been responsible for implementing the new 4-3-3 tactics and doing away with traditional wingers. There have also been reports about discontent with the players in the past when he took over more of the 1st team training. How much of this is true however remains to be seen. For all we know it is the press trying to make a meal out of something that really isn’t there.
His relationship with Ronaldo is one thing we can definitely thank him for. After the world cup saga he flew out to smooth things over with a boy who undoubtedly knew he was in for a rough ride upon his return. But can an assistant’s position really be justified because of his relationship with one player?
The question I want to put to you today is.. If Queiroz does go, who would you like to see in his place? Lippi has been mentioned, as has Curbishly. But I want to know what the real fans think. One important thing to bear in mind is that the next assistant manager is closer than ever to taking over from Ferguson when he eventually retires. That could prove to be a massive pull factor for any potential manager. Who would you like to see and why?

It's all idle speculation. Queiroz isn't going anywhere. The Portuguese press is strongly linking Portuguese manager Jesualdo Ferreira for the Porto job. Queiroz will be staying put for better or worse.

I don't think Lippi will take an Assistant position. He just won the World Cup!!
I think Queiroz can take the credit for the team's strengthening in defense. But I don't think he's given any new ideas, at least none that have worked.
I'd like to see Paul Le Guen in that assistant manager position, and then taking over. He's young, and won three straight championships with Lyon. Problem is, he's now with Rangers. He was on sabatical last year, would've been a great time to approach him.
No disrespect to Ferguson and other senior managers, but recently, the successful clubs have been lead by young managers, with new and fresh ideas, and a different type of football. Barcelona and Chelsea are a good example of new tactics, new football.
