It seems united are being linked with every player under the sun at the moment. With fresh reports coming out of France that we are back in for Diarra. the figure is reported at around £14 million which seems a much more acceptable price than the previous £25 million mentioned. This could explain why the deal for Senna is yet to go through despite Villareal giving us permission to talk to the player. Question is who would you prefer? Senna or Diarra? My initial thoughts were that at £25 million Diarra is way overpriced and I would take Senna at £4 million every time. However if Diarra can be captured for £14 million that changes my perspective somewhat. The guy is only 25 and so we could expect a good number of years from the player, making him look a lot cheaper.
I haven't seen much of either player, so would welcome your views on the strengths and weaknesses of both.

possibly, it's a tough one to call! The only thing with Diarra is his age and good defensive midfielders are few and far between. We have 5 stikers, but you are right that £10-£15 million on a striker would be worthwhile!
If its true I'd go for Diarra. He looked pretty good in the Champions League last season, especially against Milan in the semi final. Very similar to Vieira in build but probably a little quicker going forward. I'd certainly pay 14 Million for him, probably go up to 18 million, same as Carrick, whom he is better than although they obviously play different roles. My only doubt is whether he will want to come given that he has previously stated he wanted to go to Madrid. Possibly Fergie's good relationship with Gerard Houllier might swing it. Again though apparently Lyon are saying he isn't for sale!
Rossi has looked a littel off the pace at the start of this season. I think Fergie is conscious that he doesnt introduce him to the first team too early and I think he knows what he is doing in this area. Ronaldo and Rooney have matured well under the gaffers guidance.
With Diarra, I think a lot will be down to maney with him. If we sign him, we would be one of the strongest teams in Europe.
link link link when are we actually going to BUY someone season starts in 9 days. what the F*%K!?!?!?!?!

Good news indeed!! I'm a big Diarra fan, I hope this deal goes through.
For some reason, I get the feeling that the club's finances are better than the public thinks. I remember the rumours about the supposed 45 million punds the board had intended to use on transfers. And the huge AIG sponsorship deal. And Ruud's sale. And the fact that the club continues to be linked with such expensive footballers also seems to show that there is enough money available. Or at least, that the board recognizes the need to bring in top quality players.
I believe Diarra's signing will not prevent the club from buying a forward. I also believe that we need another quality striker.
what about hargreaves. bit more expensive but younger and english paired with carrick could be massive. diarra is great but the real question is who is going to make of for RvN's missing 30+ per season?
i am not impressed by torres. spanish strikers not really EPL material historical with a few exceptions. adriano looks almost as fat and slow as ronaldo.
does diarra go forward at all? seems he mostly plays holding at LO? anyone what them last year?
